Went to my favourite Japanese restaurant in Sydney for lunch today – Suminoya.
I have the same thing every time – sizzling hot Bibimbap with heaps of chilli paste.
I had a Yebisu to wash it down.
I have decided that Yebisu is my favourite Japanese beer. Aside from Yebisu there is nothing really to distinguish one Japanese beer from another – they are all so similar. Transparent straw colour, thing bodied without much malt backbone finish with some solid bitterness.
What I like so much about Yebisu is that has so much malt in it. As well as providing a fuller and more textured feel in the mouth, it just gives so much more flavour (not to mention a more interesting colour). While there were not any particularly noteworthy flavours in the malts, there was a complexity in the sweetness of the Yebisu that other Japanese lagers just can’t match. The bigger malted body also allowed for a stronger hops characteristic. A dry finish means the Yebisu All Malt Beer can both complement or cleanse the palate of delicate though occasionally pungent Japanese food.
